Dr Chantal J. Slor

Provisional Psychologist, PhD

Psychologist (Neuropsychology)

Chantal completed her Master of Clinical Neuropsychology at the University of Amsterdam in 2009.  She then went on to complete her PhD in 2013 at the University of Amsterdam on the subject of post-operative delirium. She has presented at various international conferences and is published in international journals.

Chantal has experience working as a psychologist and a research coordinator in both hospital and non-hospital settings. She has worked in a diverse range of settings from academic teaching hospitals to aged care settings, where she gained experience with both (neuro)psychological assessments as well as providing guidance to clients, family or health care staff.
Approach to Therapy:
Chantal believes that clients should feel safe and comfortable to express their thoughts and feelings during therapy, which aids in achieving clients goals and a successful treatment outcome. She believes in using evidence-based techniques, while also being aware of adapting treatment plans to the individual where necessary. She uses a friendly, warm and respectful approach while also being direct and open in her communication.

Main Areas of Interest:

Clinical Neuropsychology:
The consequences of brain disorders are very diverse and concern not only cognitive disorders, but also emotional and behavioral disorders. A clinical neuropsychologist performs specialist diagnostics and treatment and makes a translation into daily functioning, whereby the environment is explicitly involved. An important task for the clinical neuropsychologist is to determine to what extent the complaints and disorders can be attributed to neurological, organic-cerebral pathology or (completely/partly) to other factors such as pain, anxiety, fatigue, personality problems, gloominess or underperformance. Equally important is determining the consequences of such a diagnosis for the treatment policy.

Neuropsychological Assessment:
Neuropsychological and Clinical Psychological Assessments are designed to examine an individuals’ current psychological and/or cognitive functioning (memory, planning, language, visuospatial etc) and the subsequent impact of this on their functioning in the different areas of their life. Neuropsychological assessments are beneficial for individuals experiencing cognitive problems because of:
  • Acute brain injury (for example acquired brain injury, stroke, brain tumours or exposure to toxins or drug/alcohol use)
  • Neurodegenerative disorders (for example dementia, Parkinson's disease or multiple sclerosis)
  • Developmental disorders (autism spectrum disorders or ADHD)
  • Psychiatric disorders (for example schizophrenia)

Dementia Consultancy:
Dementia consultancy involves services such as training of health care staff in aged care facilities. This can be very general, more tailored to a specific subject (behavioural problems, accompanying neuropsychiatric disorders, etc) or even focused on an individual with specific cognitive-behavioural issues. Dementia consultancy may also be requested on an individual basis.

Chantal can work with English and Dutch speaking clients.
