BPsych (Hons)., MPsych (Clinical)
Qualifications:Shrey has completed a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology. His training has entailed work with a wide variety of clients from differing backgrounds and age groups, in both individual and group therapy settings. Shrey’s experience in Psychology also includes work in hospital and forensic settings. He has conducted research into the use of exposure therapy, in varying forms and presented in different modalities, for helping people with anxiety disorders.
Approach to Therapy:Shrey believes strongly in a person-centred approach to therapy, which involves working to client strengths within the framework of clients’ value systems. He views therapy as inherently collaborative, and he wishes to help empower clients to strive toward goals that are important to them.
Main Areas of Interest:
Trauma- Shrey has a strong interest in working with people who have experienced trauma. He has worked with and helped people who have suffered trauma in childhood, and is also interested in working with those who have suffered more recent trauma. Acknowledging that such events profoundly impact people and shape their perspectives on themselves and the world around them, Shrey works to help clients process traumatic events and work toward better futures.
Depression and anxiety- Shrey has had extensive experience working with people with low mood, as well as those who suffer from various forms of anxiety. Low mood or depression may manifest in a wide variety of contexts and have many different immediate causal factors. While Shrey has most often used a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy approach in dealing with low mood, he acknowledges the need to work specifically with clients’ presenting concerns. He has often turned to the use of Schema Therapy, which focusses on both cognitive (thought-based) and affective (emotional) aspects of how those with low mood perceive the world. Shrey’s work with anxiety has involved helping people gradually confront their fears in a safe environment using exposure therapy. He has experience working with those with social anxiety, helping them to both find the courage and develop the social skills necessary to navigate social situations.
Eating disorders- Eating disorders (both under and over-eating, as well as other unhealthy eating behaviours) are among the most misunderstood mental health issues. People with these issues may face stigma and attempt to hide their behaviour from others, even as it continues to affect their overall health and functioning. Shrey wishes to work with those who suffer from eating disorders, and looks forward to further building his experience and abilities in this area.
