Qualifications:
Rui (pronounced Ray) has completed her Master of Clinical Psychology at the Queensland University of Technology. Additionally, she has completed a Bachelor of Social Science, Psychology (Honours) at the National University of Singapore.Her experience includes working in forensic setting, private setting, and in non-profit organization, delivering both group and individual interventions, as well as conducting formal psychological assessments.
She has also worked with adolescents, young adults, adults, elder population, LGBTIQ+, and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) population.
Approach to Therapy:
As a psychologist, Rui believes that clients are unique individuals, and hence it is important to take a client-focused approach in understanding and helping them. While taking a client focused approach, she integrates Cognitive Behavioural therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Solution Focused therapy, mindfulness and psychodynamic therapy where appropriate to suit the needs of the clients. Rui values the importance of creating a safe, warm and engaging environment for clients and to work collaboratively and respectfully with them to achieve their goals.Main Areas of Interest:
Rui have experiences working in the forensic setting, delivering substance use group interventions. She has a strong interest in Alcohol and Other Drugs, and understanding their interaction with mental illness. Rui has completed her Master’s research on dual diagnosis within the prison population.
Rui is interested in providing therapy in the community setting, specifically working with clients with anxiety and mood disorders, stress, trauma, relationship issues, workplace issues, amongst others. Additionally, she is particularly keen on working with people with culturally diverse background and are struggling with acculturation issues. She also has special interest working with LGBTIQ+ population who may struggle with stress, identity and acceptance issues.
