What is it
“Kids will be kids. It is perfectly normal for kids to play up a little and test those boundaries. But some kids will push those boundaries to the limit. They will scream, hit, and kick hard to knock those boundaries down.
… As a result they don’t fit in with other kids, they have trouble at school, and most importantly, your relationship with your child is severely strained.
What it includes
Normal discipline strategies don’t seem to work. You have tried everything… being firm, yelling, time-out… but nothing works. You are trapped in an endless power-struggle with your child. You think you are somehow getting this parenting thing wrong; and this brings up feelings of guilt, shame, and embarrassment. This is a heart-breaking, demoralizing experience. You just want to get along with your kids, enjoy spending time with them, and have fun..” (Managing Defiance Parenting Manual by Deb Kahler, 2015).
Being a parent is the most important job in the world – and good parenting is the greatest gift you can ever give to your children. While parenting can be both the most difficult and the most rewarding thing you will ever do in your life, parenting groups and one-on-one parent coaching are great ways to learn some new tricks.
